David Paris • Feature Film
Dontez X. James appears as David Paris in The Assassin’s Code, a crime thriller centered on a young detective investigating his father’s murder while uncovering secrets within his own police department.
THE CHARACTER
David was originally described as worried, paranoid, twitchy and something of a “kindly fuck-up”—a young man who recreationally indulges and finds himself mixed up in trouble.
Dontez approached the character from a different angle. Rather than playing David simply as the screw-up, he saw him as a good kid who fell in with the wrong crowd. When a heist goes wrong, David suddenly finds himself caught in circumstances much bigger—and more dangerous—than he expected.
That choice gave the character something underneath the nervousness: David isn’t comfortable in this world. He’s in over his head.
