May 2020...
Covid reached its peak. Everyone was inside and between it being an election year and conspiracy theories running wild. I was all out of the brain power to entertain any of those energy consuming topics. So I began writing a television show and a movie for the second things opened back up in Hollywood.
June 2020...
It was happening again, I fell into the trap of the media and letting it influence my thoughts, I was upset just like everyone else was about the murder of another black man on national television. I searched a simple topic into google. I searched "Black man." I saw kings in chains and cuffs, I saw the worst representatives of a simple search about black men and decided I was over that narrative. I wanted to do something about it.
I began writing about a Hollywood Actor because we as black men with the spotlight on us throughout our entire lives are expected to be aggressive, thugs, and incompetent. Benjamin Watts is perfect in the eyes of the folks in the world around him. He is lifted so high on a ledge that the moment he messes up, it's all over.
That is the fault of the world, because we as caretakers of Gods earth, are not taking care of what really matters inside. The world shunned Benjamin and he became another Black man on the front page of google, but there's accountability in this story. There's redemption in this story and I believe that ultimately. Benjamin Watts is a reflection of every man and woman that has ever run from something but still achieved greatness without healing.
