I was at work, sitting in the parking lot at three in the morning. The day before I was just finding out how I was cast as Charlie Smith in a film that I assumed was a buddy film called "My Friend Dahmer" I was in that parking lot researching Jeffery Dahmer and I was sick to my stomach. I had no clue what I'd just gotten myself into, but once the script came, I was a little more at ease. First, my heart goes out to the victims. I pray for peace over your families.
Working with Ross Lynch and the gang was my first time having to keep things under wraps. I had no clue Dahmer had such a huge following and Ross was leaving Disney and doing more edgy projects.
My scene with Ross was intense. I was the "token black guy" and star football player, Charlie Smith. Lynch and I shared a dorm room in the scene while on a school trip. It was as real as it could get. Ross watched an interview on set from “Dahmer” and then I could see him go into character. I did the same thing, and whatever happened following that, was all Charlie Smith and Ross's character.
